Build Diary

Build Diary – Sep. 8th-12th 2014:

It’s the last days of Summer and the weather has been nothing short of beautiful. We take some time to set up a fire pit, get it burning and start our work for the week. The first day out there, we had laid out the beams and set the staging. Day two, we poured the cement for the Locust Poles, then we built the Tri-beam for the pod and finally on day three we cut out and installed GL’s and the Tri-beam for the pod and bridge.

Build Diary – Sep. 15th 2014:

The forest is so peaceful on these final Summer days. At the end of the day we sit around the campfire, I light a cigar and take in the utter awe of silence around us after the power tools are put away for the evening. Take another puff of my cigar and just bask in the beauty around us.
Day one, we installed the beams and joists for the octagon and then we actually began to weave the new nest around it. Day two was spent installing the beams and posts on the main house. On the third day, we installed the knee braces and joists for the main house while, day four was more of the same. The last day of our week was spent installing blocking for joists.

Build Diary – Sep. 22nd 2014:

I can feel the chilly air in my room that tells me Fall is finally here. It’s hard to pull off the sheets and get out of bed but, that smell of coffee brewing permeating through my room wakes me up, ready to get started on another week.
Day one we installed decking on the octagon and bridge. The second day, we installed posts at the octagon so we can cut the post from the main deck, the next day was spent installing locust poles for stairs and landing. Day four, we cut the stair stringers and poured cement for the landing. The fifth day we install stairs and posts for the railing. Day six was more work on the railing, we installed railing caps and of course, more monumental weaving of the octopod with indigenous vines. To end our seven day work week, we clean the site and take care of all the invoices as we prep for another long week of work.
I can’t complain, we get work in the woods and cook at a campfire while doing what we love. Not to mention the abundance of classic rock! It’s amazing how so man bands from my hometown of Seattle are considered classic rock these days. I must be getting old, but hey, that’s life.

Build Diary – Sep. 29th 2014:

We start another week with installing plywood for the house and the decking, as well as continue the weave on the pod. The second day we install more decking for the main house and day three of our week, had us start the notching and installing walls with day 4 being much of the same. Day 5 we had rain, so we took the weekend off. I headed back to NYC to spend time with my daughter Petra who is the light of my light.. Ray and Rob, the master carpenters of Romero Studios are doing such an awesome job! So focused and inspiring. On the ride back thinking, I am very fortunate to have such a talented crew

Build Diary – Oct. 30th 2014:

It’s the day and night before completion. Tower and upper octagon is sealed with Lauren Booth resins in place as the chamber glows with her beautiful port holes showing off colored jewelry. Rob and Ray burn the daylight laying in 24 inch pine plank flooring as ACDC rocks the forest. We’ll go silent soon, Russian earl grey boiling on the fire as we listen for the sound of owls. Ah the life of a woodsmen!

Love & light,
